  Since the begin of May, so for the past 5 months, I’ve been doing a lot in order to get rid of some extra weight. Unlike my previous attempts in the past, this time I succeeded like never before.

  It’s been quite a while since I’ve written in the blog. I don’t do much programming at home these days, so the various pet projects I’ve published here over the time are idling. Instead, I’ve been working out a bit more than usual. In fact, for the first time in my life, I’ve taken quite a liking to running.

  Τα γνωστά, πρωινό ξύπνημα, η τσάντα έτοιμη, ταξί, τρένο, αεροδρόμιο. Η μέρα έχει μεγαλώσει πάρα πολύ, πλησιάζουμε στο μέγιστο και όταν η ώρα ήταν 4:30 ήδη είχε λίγο (ελάχιστο) φως ενώ όταν έφτασα στο κέντρο του Άμστερνταμ έβλεπες κανονικά.

• Σκουπίδια

  Στο σπίτι που μένω είχαμε στο υπόγειο κοντέινερ για τα σκουπίδια αλλά μας το αφαιρέσανε. Και τώρα; Τυχαία πέτυχα έναν Έλληνα στο ασανσέρ (έχω και Έλληνες γείτονες όπως φαίνεται) και μου είπε ότι πρέπει να προμηθευτώ κάρτα από το δήμο. Η αίτηση γίνεται απλά από το ίντερνετ και σου στέλνουν δύο κάρτες (μέγεθος πιστωτικής) σε δύο εργάσιμες.

  So I wake up this morning and check my e-mail as usual. In my e-mail I see an invoice from my internet provider, Telfort, that charges me 49 euros for moving costs. I get pissed off and I twit about it.

• Greeks in space!

  I just got a video from an event in Paris that shows the Greek vice president of the government [*] been kicked out by several Greek protesters. A few days ago, in Berlin, the Greek prime minister had also troubles with Greek demonstrators that interrupted his speech. I think the one place Greeks haven’t demonstrated yet is… space!

• Με το φεγγάρι

  Ξάπλα στο τρένο, και οι τέσσερις θέσεις δικές μου… με το κεφάλι κολλητά στο τζάμι και το βλέμμα καρφωμένο στο φεγγάρι. Μάλλον πανσέληνος. Καθαρός νυχτερινός ουρανός, κάπου μεταξύ 6 και 7 το απόγευμα. Το φεγγάρι κρύβεται στιγμιαία όταν περνάει τρένο από την αντίθετη κατεύθυνση ή κάποιο ψηλό κτήριο. Στο Λάιντεν νομίζω ότι θα μου κρυφτεί πίσω από το σταθμό αλλά το τρένο σταματάει ακριβώς εκεί που ξαναεμφανίζεται. Στο πίσω κάθισμα κάποιος γράφει κάτι στο λάπτοπ του και το πληκτρολόγιο έχει πάρει φωτιά. Το τρένο ξαναξεκινάει. Το φεγγάρι το καταπίνουν για λίγο κάτι μαύρα σύννεφα, αλλά μόνο για λίγο.

• Too fast for my computer

  I’ve been working on the same project since January and up to recently we had been using Visual Studio 2008 with ReSharper 4.5. A few weeks ago, we upgraded to Visual Studio 2010 and ReSharper 5. I don’t know which one is to blame, but the IDE has become a bit slower. Two features in particular are really annoying:

• 070-536 Again

  Today I took again the 070-536 exam and I passed it once more, this time with an even higher score (861, while the previous time I had scored 838 points). I’m crossing my fingers that this time the testing center will not go bankrupt… hopefully within a few days I will get a notification from Microsoft verifying that I passed the exam. In combination with the 070-528 that I had passed on March, I should now have the MCTS .NET 2.0 Web Applications certification, which is my first certification!

• Certification Nightmare

  Last Monday, after spending about a month studying daily in the train to work, I went and took the 070-536 exam at New Horizons testing center, in Rotterdam Alexander. I was nervous because there are a lot of topics covered in this test that I’ve never ever used, since I’m focused more on web applications. After 45’ minutes and 40 questions, I had succeeded! The popup window congratulated me and notified me that I had a scored 838 points, while the base is 700. Then I clicked next and that’s when it all started.

• Η Ελλάδα έχει θάλασσα;

  Η Ολλανδία κινείται σε ρυθμούς προεκλογικούς και προμουντιαλικούς. Στις 9 Ιουνίου οι Ολλανδοί θα ψηφίσουν για την κυβέρνησή τους και δειλά δειλά κάποιες προεκλογικές αφίσσες κάνουν την εμφάνισή τους. Από την άλλη, καθόλου δειλά, όλοι οι Ολλανδοί γιορτάζουν το επερχόμενο μουντιάλ. Αν κάποια δορυφορική φωτογραφία δείξει την Ολλανδία πορτοκαλί, δεν θα εκπλαγώ καθόλου. Όλοι φοράνε πορτοκαλί μπλούζες ή κάτι πορτοκαλί, παντού υπάρχει σημαιοστολισμός με μικρά πορτοκαλί σημαιάκια, γίνεται ο χαμός.

• Certifications

  Last March I passed my first exam, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 - Web-Based Client Development, also known as 070-528. Having worked many years in Athens with ASP.NET web applications, I didn’t even study; I just made an appointment with the test center, went there, and passed the exam.
